Hello!

This is a big one. Two festivals overlap this weekend, Starlite goes two nights in a row, and there's a fishing tradition from 1995 you can watch for free at dawn. Here's what I'd go to.

Rick Astley opens the weekend at Starlite in Marbella. Full band, decades of hits, the quarry setting alone is worth it. 22:00, from €45.

Weekend Beach Festival hits Torre del Mar the same night, with Dellafuente playing his only Andalusian date of the year alongside David Bisbal and Ana Mena. Three stages on the sand.

Los Morancos bring their new satire "Bota Antonia" to the 101 Music Festival at Plaza de Toros La Malagueta, 22:00. Nearly two hours of political comedy and parody.

If you want something free, Loco Bongo's Orgullo edition takes over Plaza de España in Casares at 20:00. Silly, local, no ticket needed.

Also free: Festival La Pequeña Cuba runs in Torremolinos through the whole weekend, live music, food and folklore from 16:00 daily.

Elvis Crespo takes the Starlite stage this time, merengue classics and pure energy, 22:00, from €35.

Weekend Beach Festival closes with its final day: Myke Towers and Abraham Mateo, who plays his only Málaga province date of the year. Arrive early evening for the full lineup into the finale.

Chris Stussy plays Marbella Arena at 19:00, from €45, with Lauren Lo Sung and Laidlaw supporting. Proper club-scale house night.

If you're an early riser, La Tirada del Copo happens at 08:00 on Los Boliches beach in Fuengirola. A traditional net-fishing reenactment going back to 1995, free to watch, and genuinely not something you'll find in a guidebook.

Julio Musical closes its opening weekend inside the Alcazaba with Carmina Terrarum performing 13th-century Cántigas de Santa María on period instruments. 22:00, €15.

Sunday is also the cheapest day to sightsee in Málaga. Picasso Museum and Pompidou are free from 15:00, Alcazaba and Gibralfaro free from 14:00. Combine two or three for a full free afternoon.

The usual Sunday markets run too: Cortijo de Torres in Málaga (315 stalls, 9:00-15:00) and Calle Méndez Núñez in Fuengirola (132 stalls, 9:00-14:00).

  • Weekend Beach Festival runs all three days at Torre del Mar. Shuttle buses go from Málaga city if you don't want to drive.

  • La Tirada del Copo is free but early. Set your alarm, it's worth it.

  • Julio Musical's Alcazaba shows are intimate, some nights only 100 seats. Book ahead if you're set on going.
