Last weekend was all about spending one perfect Saturday in Málaga.
This weekend feels different. Instead of one big event, the Costa del Sol turns into one giant stage. Wherever you go, there's music.
You could be dancing to the Gipsy Kings under the Marbella sky, singing along with Pablo López by the sea in Fuengirola, discovering Lia Kali in Málaga, or finishing the evening at Cirque du Soleil before it leaves the city.
And if concerts aren't your thing, there are still plenty of reasons to head out: a Candlelight concert at Gran Hotel Miramar, free live music, summer festivals and local celebrations.
These are the weekends I love most. No pressure to follow a plan. Just pick whatever matches your mood. Here's what I'd go to this weekend :
Gipsy Kings open the weekend at Starlite in Marbella. Nicolas Reyes and Tonino Baliardo, five decades of flamenco-rumba in that quarry setting. 22:00, from €29.
Pablo López plays his hometown debut at Marenostrum Fuengirola the same night. He's from Fuengirola, so this one carries weight. Seated show, 22:00, from €55.
If jazz is more your evening, Richard Bona and Dave Weckl play a fusion double bill at El Portón in Alhaurín de la Torre, 21:00. Or the Giustino Graziosi Trio at Clarence Jazz Club in Torremolinos, 22:00, €10-15. Small venues, serious musicians.
Free and easy: Mr. Man & The Small Frying Pan bring Americana and folk rock to Yaumate Club in Nerja, 23:00, no cover.
Three big shows at once tonight. Danny Ocean headlines Starlite, 22:00, from €34, with Elena Rose taking over after midnight for the after party. Dani Fernández brings his "La Insurrección" tour to Marenostrum Fuengirola, 22:00, from €49.50. And Lia Kali headlines the 101 Music Festival at Plaza de Toros La Malagueta, 22:00, from €38.50. Pick your genre.
Staying local and free: Festival Malagueñas de Fiesta fills Plaza de la Constitución at 21:30, with Pitingo as special guest. No ticket, just show up, free until capacity.
Also free, but you need to reserve: Homenaje a María Jiménez y Bambino at El Portón, 22:00, max 2 tickets per person .
Last chance for Cirque du Soleil KURIOS at Cortijo Torres. I went last Sunday and absolutely loved it so if you've been thinking about going, don't wait any longer, this is the final weekend in Málaga. It's funny, beautiful, surprisingly emotional and easily one of the best live shows I've seen in years.
Marbella closes its Virgen del Carmen fiestas with the sea procession and fireworks along the old town and seafront.
KURIOS leaves Málaga after Sunday. Don't wait.
Andalucía Play Fest runs all weekend at FYCMA if you're into gaming.
Feria de Caleta de Vélez continues through Saturday if you're based in the Axarquía area.
